A new year – a new safe haven for greater horseshoe bats

We are so excited that work to renovate the derelict stable has finally begun. This new year has started with new hope that we will be able to create a safe haven for new generations of greater horseshoe bats in southeast England…and this is all thanks to the huge generosity of our supporters.

Led by Jaime Relf, the team from IBuild Construction has set up scaffolding and made a start on removing the roof while the bats are hibernating elsewhere. This is the most urgent work needed to make this roost a safe and suitable haven for future generations of this rare species. It will also be a step closer to helping greater horseshoe bats to return to their former ranges in southeast England.

We’re nearly there

Although we have raised enough funds to start the building work, rising costs of materials mean that we still need to raise over £98k to ensure this important roost is built to meet the specific year round needs of greater horseshoe bats and to increase the chances of them once again being a part of the environment in southeast England.

You can donate here or through Sussex Bat Group’s Just Giving page. Thank you so much for your support and for playing a part in returning this rare species to its former home in Southeast England.
